ARPA - E

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 outlays 400 million dollars for the establishment of the new Advanced Research Projects Agency for Energy. The new Energy agency will follow the model of DARPA from the Pentagon. The House committee on Science and Technology, led by chairman Bart Gordan, is heavily involved in the promotion and oversight of ARPA-E. A central idea behind the inception of this decentralized energy agency is that private equity funding lacks the depth necessary to push the type of technology needed to overcome the challenges the energy sector faces today and in the future. The U.S. government will fund projects administered by the agency. I am curious to discover more about ARPA -E and will report more on this interesting new entity in the energy industry. More to come...
